D'fhoghlaim mé faoi an scéal seo níos brónach sa Tiobáid. Bhí daoine dhóitear chun báis siadsan níos mó ná dhá dosean ansin. Chuir siad bás mar ní raibh mian leo chun i gcónai faoi riail na tSíne.
Léigh mé i nuachtan áitiúil ar feadh tseachtaine seo caite an aiste seo. Tá agoidí atá ag fás le déanaí ansuid. Thosaigh siad tamall ó shín ach go raibh ach bhí bás cúpla trí fhéinmharú.
Anois, tá básannaí ag meadú sa Tiobáid. Ar dtús, bhí siad ag tharla uair amháin ar feadh tamaill leis manaich agus mná rialtaí i mainistreachaí agus clochairí. Ach, bhfuil siad ag tarlú i measc daoine tuata i séasúr na gheimhridh.
Bá é 10 Márta a 53ú comóradh ar an éirí amach i gcoinne an ionróirí Síne i 1959. Méadúithe cos ar bolg le blianta beaga anuas sa Tiobáid. Tógann daoine óg níos mó éadóchasach.
Dúirt manach sine sula leagtar sé é féin ar an tine: "Tá mé a thabhairt ar shiúl mo chorp mar a thairiscint an tsolais a chase ar shiúl an dorchadas." Mas mian leat chun an fhadhb Tibéid, cuair a thabhairt air ITN.
Death by fire in Tibet.
I learned about a very sad story in Tibet. More than two dozen people have burned themselves to death there. They met death for they did not wish to live under the rule of China.
I read this past week in my local newspaper this article. Protests are growing recently over there. They started a while ago but deaths by setting one's self on fire were few.
Now, deaths are increasing in Tibet. At the start, they were happening once in a while with monks and nuns in monasteries and convents. But, they are happening among lay people this winter season.
The 10th of March was the 53rd anniversary of the uprising against the Chinese invasion in 1959. Oppression increases in recent years in Tibet. Young people are becoming more desperate.
A senior monk said before he set himself on fire: "I am giving away my body as an offering of light to chase away the darkness." If you want to help Tibet, visit ITN.
